No. 25 PRINCE GEORGE, B. C. 11:r:FJSD\\Y, JUNE 25, 1936 Five Centa Now VISITORS TO THE CITY ARE PROMISED A FULL DAY'S ENTERTAINMENT BY THE COMMITTEEDETAILS ARRANGEED ON A LAVISH SCALE Change In Train Timetable AIRPLANE STUNTING AND PARACHUTE JUMPING HAS BEEN SET FOR WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON-IS FEATURED EVENT OF THE DAY Final arrangements for the greatest celebration ever to be held in Prince George were completed on Wednesday evening bv the finance committee o fthe board of trade celebration executive. That the stage is set for the largest gathering to assemble in Prince George is a foregone conclusion, and with the weather keeping warm it will be the most successful. It is fitting that the celebration coincides with the 21st birthday of the corporation of the City of Prince George. The city itself will see that the streets are decorated and put in the best of condition. A full program of events will hold the interest of visitors right from the moment it opens on Tuesday, evening with the baseball game on Duchess Park, commencing at 6.30. The prizes offered by the celebration committee have proven a magnet for the several baseball teams in the Interior, as it is noted practically every point within 150 miles, with the exception of Quesnel, is sending representative ball teams for the championship meet. Among these are: Wells, Wingdam, Island Mountain and Vanderhoof, all sending worth-while teams. Way-Freight Schedule Changed To fit in with celebration plans the C.N.R. have made a change in the schedule of the way freight between Prince George and McBride^ which should meet with the approval of those living nlong the line. On Tuesday afternoon the time for the train west bound to Prince George has been put back, to allow those working to get to the city in time for the celebration. Residents would do well to get the altered time schedule from the trainmen at the different points. To enable them to return with the minimum loss of time the eastbound way-freight will leave a day ahead of schedule. That is, instead of leaving on Friday, the train will depart lrom Prince George at 8 o'clock on Thursday morning. Co-operation of Citizens Desired The board of trade, having taken over the management of the July 1st celebration, have decided to put on a good show and have gone to considerable expense to make the attractions worth witnessing. With no enclosed park the board is at a disadvantage in not being able to make a gate charge, but to overcome this they have tags for all spectators, which will be sold in advance by girls and at the field by the usual salesmen. Co-operation on the part of citizens is desired on this point, and it is hoped that everyone will be wearing a tag. The price is within reach of everybody, having been set at 50c which includes all events ar Duchess Park tor both June 30th and July 1st. Children under 14 will be free. Make sure you help the celebration by displaying a tag. Storekeepers and business men are requested to give the celebration an added touch through the decoration of their premises with flags and bunting. Through such co-operation the success or Dominion Day will be assured. Citizens who possess flags will do a good turn to see they are flying for the occasion. Celebration Feature The airplane stunting and parachute jumping which will take place at Duchess Park twice during the afternoon on July 1st will be the most interesting attraction of the day. Interior residents will on the whole, be witnessing this spectacle for the first time and reports from outside points indicate many visitors will be present. During the day Pilot Len Foggin will make flights for passengers and many will take advantage of this opportuniy o make their first flight. The Holiday Schedule The celebration opens at Duchess Park on Tuesday evening with a ball game at 6:30, the teams for which have not been chosen as yet. This will be followed by the opening of the Midway on Dominion Street, adjoining the Strand Theatre, with the Monte ^arlo in the premises formerly occupied by the Northern Hardware on George street.
