Controls Put On Building
The provincial government, by an order in council, has moved to hall haphazard building in areas outside Prince George's city limits.
It has sel up a Community Planning Area taking in all development within a 10-mile radius of the city. (See map at right.)
The area extends east to Shelley, west to Mud River and Mi-worth, north to Salmon Valley and south to Calc Creek.
Under the establishment of Community Planning Area No. 7, building permits will be needed for any additions to existing buildings or structures, new buildings or structures, installation of septic tanks and plumbing facilities and demolition of a building or structure, or moving same.
SOUGHT CONTROL
Subdivisions are also controlled under ilie nuw scheme.
The move, effective Dec. 29, ]!)fit), has been hailed by City Manager Arran Thomson. The city had been asking provincial control over building in the area surrounding the city for a number of years.
"We (the city) asked the cabinet, when it met here two years a:^o, for establishment of a com nuinily planning area here," Mr. Thomson said.
"The outlying areas are just a ruddy hodge-podge," he said. "Now they'll have to conform."

Firm prediction that Peace River power will be cheaper in Vancouver than Columbia power was made here Thursday night by John S. Shakespeare, solicitor for Peace River Power Development Co.
He told the annual meeting of the Prince George Hoard of Trade: "I can't quote you the rates, but don't be fooled by the stories yon hear. I am prepared to say-that Peace power will be delivered in the Vancouver area cheaper than Columbia River power."
lie made the prediction while showing a series of slides illustrating his talk and after his main address.
H.C.'s huge hydro-electric potential should be developed as soon as possible "if we are to realize cheap power" l>v taking advantage of present-day construction costs, he said.
Failure to act now, he warned, will lose B.C. the advantage of construction costs which arc far lower than they will be 10 or 2'.) years from now.
