the society Tuesday night Chairman of the board for the last three years his resigna resignation tion came toward the end of one of the largest and most controversial meetings in the societys history Mr Bryant said he resigned in protest to activities of min minority ority groups that have not been conducive to good administra administration tion and orderly hospital ex expansion pansion More than 200 society mem members bers 137 of them entitled to vote filled Duchess Park audit auditorium orium for the meeting which started pmptly at 8 pm and did not end until 3Hi hours later FIRST INVALID It was the second annual meeting this year The first held March 12 was ruled in invalid valid because some members were not notified of the meet meeting ing in time Mr Bryants resignation may have come as a surprise but it did not come as a shock considering the climate of the meeting A largo segment of the mem membership bership many of whom had taken out memberships in the society since March 12 made it plain it was out to run down to earth the flight of rumors as associated sociated with the admini3tra tion of the hospital in recent months However to members who had anticipated hearing further to recent rumors nothing of any consequence materialized NURSING CARE Major complaints involved standard of nursing care at the hospital Mrs Matt Briggs a former e 100 get green OTTAWA CP United efforts by the federal and BC gov ernments will be made to sell a huge bloc of hydro power in the US at the best possible price This was made clear Tues Tuesday day night as expected at the end of intensive two day dis cussions launching attempts to break the stalemate in the big Columbia River hdro and flood control project Informants said the Canada- US treaty involved might be ratified by autumn although roadblocks still exist In line with its policy in the last two federal election cam paigns the new Liberal govern ment of Prime Minister Pear son agrees with Premier Ben netts proposal to sell off Ameri can generated power that otherwise would be returned to BC But the price and other terms of that sale will be solidly nailed down before not after Canada ratifies the GO jear tieaty There were no surprises in the final announcement These other points developed in discussions which broke up after II pm Tuesday night Treaty renegotiation a Liberal parly pledge may be dropped and changes bought in a mechanism such as a proto col attached to the actual treatv This leaves a contentious quality for the treaty itself likely to be reflectecjl in farlia mentary hearings to be con ducted before the Commons ex external ternal affairs committee The federal government feels that a united Ottawa-Victoria stand will help produce a better price for a block of power which may run about 1700000 horsepower capacity This is power which would be due to UC under the treaty for establishing three storage dams on the Columbia system These dams would level out the turbu turbulent lent river producing increased hjdro capacity and flood con control trol downstream for the Amer icans who would pay back half the extra power produced plus 65000000 in cash for flood protection This is the apparent time table for fiirtber deployments Citizen The only daily newspaper serving Central British Columbia Chairman quits during stormy hospital meet I
