the responsibility end by voting In favor of a school referendum or Joining a Parent Teacher Association Those are some of the ques questions tions being discussed by a committee which will decide the scholarship winners at Prince George Senior Secondary School seven months from now The school needs more scho scholar lar ships a member of the committee said Monday The scholarships should be of a general nature available to the majority of students Only 10 of the 20 scholarships now offered to grade 12 and 13 students at the school fit Into that category The remainder are offered by organizations or Individuals which are promoting advanced study In specialized fields The 10 general scholarships come to a total of 1975 the largest Is 400 Others are In blocks of 100 125 200 and 350 Stressing that he was not criticizing any of the donors the committee member said In general terms the more restrictive the scholarships the less beneficial they are to the community That Is the first problem confronting the committee the need for more general scholarships The second need Is for larger scholarships a sum of money which will put a student In a good financial position for the first year of university The cost to a student from Prince George attending UBC Is about 900 a year greater than that of a student from the Lower Mainland A Van Vancouver couver student can get away with 600 if he does not have to pay board and room A generous scholarship program helps the school hold up Its standards to the com community munity To fellow students It focuses attention on their out
