together one of the worlds largest timber op operations � erations 117 miles north of Prince George The Chilllwack firm has an announced � nounced plans for a sawmill operation employing 200 men which expects to produce 80 million board feet of finished lumber a year The nucleus of the operation is a small sawmill at Kennedy Siding which the company pur purchased � chased and is rapidly expanding Cattermole officials will not release details of the project A reliable source however says the company has contracted to clean out the Portage Moun- tain Dam basin before the forests are Inundated To keep ahead of the rising water the company would have to take out 200 million board feet of lumber within the next two years The contract will last until the basin is full and the dam is in operation sometime in 19C8 The source estimated Catter Cattermole � mole will spend about 15 mil million � lion expanding the mill By comparison Eagle Lake Sawmills as the largest spruce mill in the world produces about 60 million board feet per year The source said Cattermole will have to find another timber stand or reduce operation after the Portage Basin contract ex expires � pires The contract
