and establish a hew speed record Saturday Norm Crerar and Gib Mc McEachern � Eachern of Flin Flon Man covered the 139 mile route of the fur traders from Fort St James In 13 hours nine min minutes � utes Pursuit of the other seven teams was so hot that the first four finishers all broke the old time record of 13 hours 45 minutes Prince George teams finished second and third and a Kam loops team was fourth Two teams ran Into trouble and had to quit One canoeist -was slightly injured when his canoe overturned in rapids To the rubber armed champ champions � ions who have raced canoo3 1200 miles this summer went 1000 the BC canoe racing championship and the distinc distinction � tion of winning the longest non stop canoe races in the world Eight nrJiiUtes behind them were Prince George overturned True to their name the River Rats they dragged the canoe to shore dumped it and were off again They lost nearly a mile on the rest of the field but when the race was over the River Rats were In fourth position and finished with a record breaking time 13 hours 42 minutes A bad leak forced Bob Mc Bride and Peter Murken to withdraw about 40 miles down downstream � stream The pair met
