Ambulance � bulance ended Its contract two weeks ago The discontinuance fol followed � lowed complaints received by city administrative of ficers Commenting on the situa situation � tion which developed while he attended a municipal gather gathering � ing In Quebec Mayor Dezell said This is impossible we cannot have it He won council approval for a measure setting him self up as a committee of one to act in solving the prob problem � lem Well really go to work on this he said It is serious and we cannot fool around with it First step will be to pur pursue � sue a proposal from Aid Harold Assman that a vehicle be rented for use by the city This recommendation was made after the aldermen balked at two bids to take over the service One from W B Taylor asked a 1000 monthly sub subsidy � mayor recalled the ambulance had been under the file departments wing earlier but collection pi ob lems and the reduction of staff available to fight files when the ambulance was on a call made the arjangement unsatisfactory Aid Hairy Loder pointed out it was not enough to think in terms of a cit Service only The dlstiicts depend on us and it is up to us to work a deal that will take care of them He repeated an earlier council proposal that the service be subsidized by the hospital district Mayor Dezell said this recommendation had been made many times by the Union of BC Municipalities so fai without success He added the UBCM would keep Insisting it become part of hospital insurance scheme- The ambulance rental pi o posal is not viewed as per permanent � manent but as a measure to meet
