Staff Writer Bed space at Prince George Regional Hospital Is running smack on the button with needs of the area hospital administra administrator � tor Colin Elliott said today But next year may be a dif different � ferent story We have enough beds to cope with the existing population said Mr Elliott but the bed situation Is going to worsen He said the situation has im improved � proved greatly since this time last year A new 76 bed addition was opened in May 1966 bringing total beds to 43 Prince George hospital offi officials � cials apparently are facing fewer bed - shortage problems than those in the Lower Mainland Liberal members said in the Legislature Wednesday even cancer patients in some cases were forced to postpone surgery because of the inava liability of beds Dr Pat McGeer L-Vancou-ver-Point Grey said there are 7932 persons awaiting surgical beds in the Lower Mainland But he added there are only 3894 beds Liberal Leader Ray Perrault said the narrow property tax base is simply not broad enough to support hospital construction We can cook up all the hos hospital � pital districts we like but essen essentially � tially and ultimitely hospital fi financing � nancing
