Fake cop shakes down driver Citizen staff A man impersonating a police officer used flashing lights on his car to pull over two drivers on Wednesday night and asked for a sexual favour and money from one motorist, according to Prince George RCMP. Both incidents occurred near the intersection of First Avenue and Foothills Boulevard between 11:30 p.m. and 11:40 p.m. In the second instance, a man exited what was believed to be an unmarked police car and approached a female driver he had pulled over using red and blue flashing lights. The man identified himself as a police officer and asked for the woman’s driver’s licence. He then informed her that he would be seizing her licence due to a previous infraction, but offered to release it if she performed a sex act. When she refused, he asked for $50. The woman gave the man whom she believed to be a police officer the money but reported the incident to RCMp on Thursday morning. In the first incident, 10 minutes earlier, a motorist was pulled over by what was believed to be an unmarked police car, but no one exited the vehicle and the suspected car eventually drove off. RCMP have confirmed that the person behind the two incidents is not a police officer and have launched an investigation. The suspect has been described as a male between the ages of 20 and 25 with darker skin - possibly First Nations or Hispanic. He’s about six foot, with a thin build and black, short curly hair. He was wearing a white shirt with dress pants but did not have any police tools or a firearm. The car was described as dark in colour - possibly black - and sporty. Prince George RCMP said police officers never have any reason to ask for money from a member of the public. If someone identifying themselves as a police officer makes a strange request the public is encouraged to: ask for proper identification, ask to have a marked police car attend the scene or call 9-1-1 to confirm the officer’s identity. up the right tree Dix spreads NDP forest message to forest barons Frank PEEBLES Citizen staff fpeebles@pgcitizen.ca The man who would be premier used soothing tones with an ideologically hostile audience. The members of the Council of Forest Industries returned the favour. Adrian Dix, leader of the provincial NDP, was the luncheon keynote speaker Thursday at the COFI conference in Prince George. DIX He touched on how in B.C. politics - in his experience in previous NDP governments, an unelected outsider at the Legislature, and back in an opposition seat - there may be partisan disagreements but “there is far more consensus than you realize” on the major issues. The audience seemed to agree. While much conversation in the hallways of the conference expressed worry about the economic implications of an NDP government, there was still a sincere willingness to hear them out. Dix did not give any definitive hints, however, as to how his party would handle the forest industry. No planks in the platform were revealed, despite this being the biggest room of forest industry stakeholders Dix will likely to encounter before the May election. He did speak of how past governments were not without their successes, and those should be acknowledged by any new formation of government, and that future success should be built on those practices done well. — see NDP, page 3 Today's Weather o Hi -1° Low -8° See page 2 for more details and short-term forecasts ANNIE'S MAILBOX 26 CROSSWORD 25 MONEY 23 BRIDGE 26 ARTS 25-32 OPINION 6 CLASSIFIEDS 20-22 HOROSCOPE 2 SPORTS 9-12 COMICS 25 LETTERS 6 WEATHER 2 Contact Us CLAssIFIED: 250-562-6666 Reader sales: 250-562-3301 SwITCHBoARD: 250-562-2441 58307 00200 STRONG ECONOMY SECURE TOMORROW Today’s BC Liberals Shirley Bond Prince George-Valemount www.todaysbcliberals.ca For more information or to get involved: Please call: 250-596-5155 shirley.bond@bcliberals.com H facebook.com/shirleybondforbc □ twitter.com/shirleybond Mike Morris Prince George-Mackenzie For more information or to get involved: Please call: 250-596-5155 mike.morris@bcliberals.com E facebook.com/mikemorrisforbc □ twitter.com/mikemorrisforbc 058307002005
